The Daily Almanac

Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 5, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data The Daily Almanac collects, why we collect it, and the rights you have over it. We keep data collection to the minimum the service needs.

Who is responsible

The Daily Almanac is operated by zenqdev. If you have any question about your data or want to exercise your rights, write to zenq.dev@gmail.com.

Playing without an account

You can play every daily puzzle without signing in. When you play anonymously, your progress is stored only in your own browser and never reaches our servers.

Data we collect when you sign in

Signing in is optional and only adds cross-device progress sync. If you sign in with Google we receive your email address and basic profile information from Google; if you use an email magic link we receive the email address you provide.

Once signed in, we store your puzzle progress — which boards you have completed, your times, and how many hints or checks you used — linked to your account so it can follow you across devices. We never store puzzle solutions against your account.

Analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Insights to understand aggregate traffic such as page views, country and device type, and performance metrics. It is cookie-free and does not build a profile of you or collect data that identifies you personally. We also record a few anonymous, aggregated usage events (such as a page view, a puzzle completed, or a sign-in) in our own database — without cookies and without storing any identifier on your device.

Cookies and local storage

We use only the strictly necessary cookies and local storage the site needs to keep you signed in, remember your language and save your game progress. See our Cookie Policy for the details.

Purposes and legal basis

We process your data to provide the service and your account (performance of the contract you enter into by using it), to sync your progress across devices (the same purpose, activated only when you choose to sign in), and to keep the site secure and working (our legitimate interest).

Who we share data with

We do not sell your data. We rely on a small number of providers that process data on our behalf: Supabase (authentication and database), Google (sign-in identity, only if you choose Google) and Vercel (hosting and analytics). Each only processes what is needed to provide its service.

International transfers

Your account and progress data are stored by Supabase on servers in the European Union (eu-west-1, Ireland), so they do not leave the European Economic Area. Two of our providers are based in the United States — Google (only if you sign in with Google) and Vercel (hosting and cookie-free analytics); any data they process is covered by the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and progress data for as long as your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal data, except anything we are legally required to keep.

Your rights

You can request access to your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or restrict its processing, and request a copy in a portable format. To exercise any of these, write to zenq.dev@gmail.com.

If you believe we have not handled your data properly, you can lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, www.aepd.es).

Minimum age

The site is not directed at children. If you are under 14, please do not create an account without the consent of a parent or guardian.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service grows. We will revise the date above when we do, and highlight significant changes on the site.
